Community Profile

Community logoFaribault is a place where small town pride and big city opportunities can still be found.
You can find us along Interstate 35 in the beautiful lake country of southern Minnesota, just 30 minutes south of the Twin Cities, enjoying the numerous resorts and recreational opportunities at our door.

Faribault is a growing community of nearly 30,000 citizens named after it’s founder Alexander Faribault who established a fur trading post here in 1844 where the Cannon River meets the beautiful limestone bluffed Straight River. Proud of it’s roots, our small town pride can be seen in our vibrant historic downtown and older neighborhoods, while our big city opportunities are evident in the well-planned new housing developments, growing industrial parks, and commercial expansion.

Our small town pride can be seen in the hanging flower baskets and attractive signs and banners accenting our historic
downtown area. Faribault is home to nationally prominent Shattuck-St. Mary’s School and the State Academies for the Deaf and the Blind. These vibrant campuses are wonderful historical reminders that connect us with our past.

Whether you plan to spend your whole life in Faribault or just an afternoon browsing our antique stores, visiting a local apple orchard, or enjoying a dip in the area lakes, we’re sure you’ll agree – our small town pride and big city opportunities will make you feel right at home in Faribault.
