Collaborating with Chambers Statewide on Legislative Issues

The Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors lent their support to the Minnesota Federation Priority Legislative issues for 2007.

The top issues for the 2007 business agenda are:

Health Care Reform

Control rising health care costs by implementing a consumer driven health care system as soon as possible.

Long Term Funding & Program Efficiency

Passage of Minnesota's transportation amendment; statutory dedication of the funds, 60% for roads, 40% for transit; and leverage bonding to jump start funding.

State Budget

Oppose general fund tax increases. If there is a surplus, use it to convert the capital equipment refund program to an up front exemption and accelerate the phase in of sales only apportionment for our corporate income tax.

Efficiency, Base Load Supply & Renewable Energy

Increase energy efficiency and invest in new generating facilities to meet the balance of our electricity needs.

Workforce Development

Make training programs more oriented toward workers and employers to keep up with our changing economy. (Full policy outlines are available upon request from the Chamber)
