The most important trait a City Administrator can have is one of a mentor not a micro manager. Mentor department heads showing them proper methods, styles, how you’d like reports – but DO NOT micro manage them. Allow them failures but help them to learn from those failures.
Don’t need one. Need the $ for services, parks etc.
I would like to see a City Administrator that listens to the business people in Faribault. Someone that will help business owners expand or bring new business to Faribault.
Terry Berg is doing a wonderful job. I like how she is “cutting back” on unnecessary staff and really making some good financial decisions. She has a good head on her shoulders. Would really like to see her promoted to be our permanent City Administrator if she wants the job.
Twice the Daily News did a survey asking the public if she should get the job or a search be made to hire the “best” candidate. Both times the public said promote her – but the City Council did not listen. Hopefully, the new city administrator will listen to the tax payers and operate the City with the notion that tax payers are their “boss.” I think a lot of things will change as far as the public’s view of the City if this new attitude develops.
The most important traits for the City Administrator is an ability to communicate with the public, delegate to department heads and guide them in what the desired outcome it and give them the power to carry out the plan. Provide good information to the councilmembers, spell out the options and ramificaitons, then let them make the decisions.
