Downtown Action Committee

Historic Downtown Faribault, MinnesotaIn 2009 the Downtown Businesses celebrated the completion of a two year construction project that completely updated the infrastructure of the downtown. The business people involved in the Downtown Action Committee quickly began planning the next phase of downtown revitalization. The committee held a downtown forum and conducted an extensive survey to help determine the most pressing downtown issues.

There was overwhelming support for organizing the efforts of the DAC around the four key elements supported by the National MainStreet organization.
Work Groups have been formed around these areas. More volunteers are needed in each area to establish and accomplish the goals.

Bruce Burkhartzmeyer - Burkhartzmeyer Shoes and Peggy KeilenFaribo Heating and Air are the overall Chairs of the DAC and are leading the effort on organization.
Organization involves getting everyone working toward the same goal and assembling the appropriate human and financial resources to implement a Main Street revitalization program.

Jackie Carlander and Jules Mertz from Creating a Ruckus along with Pam Shackleford B & J Sewing are chairing the DAC?Promotions Planning team.

Promotions develop activities to improve consumer and investor confidence in the district and encourage commercial activity and investment in the area.

The Design team will be working on getting Main Street into top physical shape. Capitalizing on its best assets — such as historic buildings and pedestrian-oriented streets. Design activities also include instilling good maintenance practices in the commercial district and enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district.

Larry Harn – LMH Appraisals and Ann Vohs – Vohs Floors are leading the effort in the Economic Restructuring team. This team works to strengthen our existing economic assets while expanding and diversifying its economic base.

All of these groups welcome additional participants and rely on the involvement of many downtown business owners, property owners and residents to develop the plan and bring these ideas to fruition.
