Workforce Development Committee

The Workforce Development Committee Works to
Prepare Students for Careers

The committee’s mission is to foster Cooperation between business and Education Providers to Meet Future Workforce Needs of Our Community”

These are the major accomplishments of the Workforce Committee chaired by Sandy Duke of the Affinity Plus Credit Union.

Career Exploration for Students:

• 14 member business people presented career information to middle school students
• CareerFest on March 10 – co-sponsored by South Central College was a big success with over 400 students receiving information on careers. The sessions were lead by over 100 community volunteers who spoke on their career path and the education requirements.

Welcome Back to School

• Todd Markman addressed the staff at Faribault Public Schools
• Committee had a table with materials for all staff
• 92 New Teacher/Staff welcome bags were delivered to all schools

Job Shadowing partnership was established with Faribault High  School using Chamber members to provide shadow experience for high School Senior.  Other school representative on the committee also have access to this assistance.

In 2010 the committee will again present the CareerFest and engage in these and other activities to further their mission.

One of the new areas of emphasis will be to develop an HR peer group serving large and small members and sharing best practices between members
