Motokazie Development Supported by the Chamber
April 16, 2010 by The Chamber
The Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Board of Directors supports the proposed Motokazie Recreation Land Development plans in the Faribault area.
The Board commented on the positive economic impact on existing businesses in the area, the positive tourism implications and the family friendly business being proposed. They were impressed with the developers proactive approach to likely concerns such as noise and dust, and with his experience and expertise in mitigating these potential issues. I must side with the residents who oppose the Motokazie. Living on the north side of Faribault, I value the peace and quiet that can be found in walking the trails and roads north of Faribault. In addition, we put up with one-two weeks of motorized NOISE pollution during the County Fair. Any more than that would be difficult to take. Please consider promoting a different kind of business — one that would bring year round, steady employment (more than 5 full-time jobs) and a more refined atmosphere to our city.
As a member of the community who has been involved with at-risk youth of all ages, I support the Motokazie Development 100%. Im looking at it from a point where there is youth and family involvement. This is a great “hobby” for kids both girls and boys, young and teens to do something besides home in front of the TV, or getting into trouble. A possible decrease in Childhood Obesity, Juvenille crime, and increase in family togetherness. I have heard from at-risk teens that they dont have a belonging anywhere. This would be a great place to build a positive environmnet where teens could feel part of something and also allowing them to develop a positive hobby. I say go for it. We need to have things for our youth to do in this community.
Mary,
Thank you for your interest in what is happening in Northern Rice County with the MotokazieLand plan.
Noise is a popular concern expressed with anything motorized. Motokazie is making extra sure that all noise levels are within legal limits. They sound test at races to ensure that all machines have proper silencing equipment. Both the American Motorcycle Association and Motokazie test participating machines during their events to make sure they aren’t loud.
Employment would be year-round for the park, as they have dirt bikes and ATV activites in the Fall/Spring/Summer, and snowmobile activities in the Winter. You may be surprised at how refined and professionally Motokazie operates their facilities. The full-time jobs they are offering have full benefit packages.
I urge you to come to the Forest Township Hall on Wednesday at 7pm to join Motokazie for an information meeting. They will be going into more detail about what exactly they are proposing, and they will be able to answer questions that you have regarding the plan. Lee will be handing out free pit passes to attend one of their events, so you can see first-hand how they operate. I’m sure you’ll see it’s a great atmosphere!
@ Mary Lipinski:
Please consider that the proposed site of Motokazieland is up against the already noisy freeway. The ambient noise that is heard on Co. Rd. 46 is already in the neighborhood of 60db. Motokazie has had a sound study done that indicates an expected sound level of 64db at the property line. Well within legal limits and not much louder than what is currently there. Also, those figures are based on worst case scenarios and also based on sound figures from 2004. Motocross bikes have gotten much quieter since 2004 and the figures that the sound engineer has provided will likely be higher than the actual sound heard from the tracks. Also, this area was zoned commercial in 2004-05. It is inevitable that it will become developed. The fact that Motokazie intends to keep the visible landscape largely unchanged (from Co. Rd. 46) is probably not a luxury that these homeowners will enjoy if warehouses or manufacturing plants decide to develop the area. As to whether or not the business fits the desired direction the Rice County Commissioners envisioned in 2004? Well I don’t think our current economic conditions were what they envisioned either, but they are here and not going anywhere. This business is proven, and will require ZERO tax dollars to get up and running, and will help start the development of the Highway Commercial Zone, and will not break any laws. It seems pretty clear to me.
