Lights, glitz, a touch of magic and a dose of nostalgia come together as Faribault Main Street hosts Winterfest! A parade of lights marches through the downtown on Saturday, December 2. Everyone is welcome to illuminate a float and join in the fun, from construction companies decking out a truck in lights, to a family decorating a hay wagon and everything in between. To register a spot in the parade, call the Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism at (507) 334-4381. Faribault will truly be dazzling with lights and excitement that night. As the parade comes to it’s conclusion, the night is just beginning! A street dance will follow, and people are encouraged to bundle up and boogie the night away! Music will fill the streets as people dance and warm up with beverages and heaters spaced around the area. To ensure fun for the whole family that day, the afternoon will include a family friendly movie sponsored by Faribault Park and Rec at the Village Family Theater, and of course, the shops will be open so folks can cross a few items off of their shopping lists.
Thursday, November 30 will be the annual Window Decorating contest throughout downtown Faribault. Shop owners and employees put their creative juices flow and put together spectacular displays! Participating shops may choose to create their own theme, or can use the name of the Paradise Center for the Art’s holiday production, “Coconuts and Mistletoe”, as a launching point for the decorations. There will be complimentary horse drawn wagon rides through the downtown that evening, which people of all ages will enjoy taking a spin on. New this year, will be an ice carving! Local artist Adam Scholljegerdes will be crafting a sculpture from a block of ice, and you can watch the process!
